ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATIONS – HELICOPTER FLIGHT TRAINING

Enrollment Prerequisites: A person must hold the following prior to enrolling in the flight portion of the Additional Certification Courses: An FAA certification in a different category and class, and a current FAA Medical Certificate.

Please note, Robinson R44 students must meet SFAR73 2(a)3(i-iv) Awareness Training requirements prior to manipulating the flight controls.

 

FAA Part 141 Private Pilot Helicopter Add-on

This certificate is for pilots holding Private certifications in other aircraft categories to add the rotorcraft – helicopter rating to their pilot certificate. Flight training is conducted in the Schweizer 300CBi or the Robinson R44 Raven II*.

Training costs:

20 Hours flight instruction: $7,400

5 Hours solo/PIC includes required cross country: $1,550

15 Hours ground school: $900

Total: $9,850

Additional Required Costs:

Books and materials: $100

FAA oral & flight exam: $600

2 Hour helicopter rental for flight exam: $620

**Group 3 Rental Deductible Waiver – 1 Year: $600

[Due to the unpredictable cost of aviation fuel, Group 3 Aviation incorporates a variable hourly aircraft fuel surcharge rate. This allows for an adjustment to your course price based on the actual pump price of our fuel purchases. The flight costs estimated do not include fuel surcharges.]

**A Rental Deductible Waiver is required for rental of Group 3 Aviation helicopters when a company flight instructor is not aboard. Waivers can be purchased through Group 3 Aviation. The cost is $600 for one year of insurance or $100 for the hourly waiver. This includes rental of aircraft for solo flights during flight training and practical exams. The waiver covers the 10% aircraft hull insurance deductible in the event of an accident.

 

FAA Part 61 Helicopter Instrument Rating Add-on

This rating is for pilots holding an instrument rating in other aircraft categories to add instrument rating to their rotorcraft – helicopter pilot certificate. Flight training is conducted in the Robinson R44 Raven II aircraft.

Training Costs:

9 Hours Flight Instruction: $4,770

6 Hours Dual Instruction in FAA Approved IFR Helicopter Simulator: $900

20 Hours Ground School: $1,200

Total: $6,870

Additional Required Costs:

We offer the choice of carrying out your training in the Robinson R44. Robinson R44 students must meet SFAR 73 solo flight requirements and complete at least 20 hours dual flight instruction prior to solo flight. Contact Group 3 for more information.
